Overview of PREPARE/ENRICH
PREPARE/ENRICH began in 1980 as a result of several research projects at the University of Minnesota in which Dr. David Olson developed a set of inventories for couples; known as PREPARE/ENRICH. Because of the demand for the inventories, Dr. Olson formed PREPARE/ENRICH to provide these helpful tools to counselors, clergy members, mentors and other marriage educators.
Over the years this small dream has continued to grow at a remarkable rate. We have trained over 100,000 PREPARE/ENRICH Facilitators in the U.S., and have International Offices around the world. Over 3 million couples have completed one of the couple inventories.
Dr. Olson has written over 20 books on relationships, especially on marriage and the family.
The Couple Checkup (2008) is a new book designed to encourage couples to take a couple checkup to identify their strengths as a couple and build on them. Using data from 50,000 married couples, the book identifies what happy couples do to create a successful marriage. The book deals with significant topics in marriage (communication, conflict resolution, sexuality, roles, finances, etc.) and provides insights and couple exercises to help couples improve these areas. A free online Individiual Profile is provided with the book.
Empowering Couples is a self-help book that is designed to help couples improve key aspects of their marriage. Each chapter begins with a short quiz and ends with couple exercises to strengthen their marriage. The 12 chapters cover key topics like communication, personality, flexibility, closeness, roles, sexuality and more. A group program with a Leader's Guide is also available.
The Building Relationships book and group program were developed for youth. This book, which has been used in churches and schools throughout the U.S., promotes adolescent awareness of the importance of relationships and how to build strong and healthy relationships in their lives.
